OCTOBER NEWSLETTER
GENERAL MANAGER & HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL
Another season has come to an end. The year definitely had its challenges that forced us to make some difficult decisions. No different than other businesses have had to do during this pandemic. If I were to pick somewhat of a bright spot, the limited amount of rain we received allowed most every day to be a good day to play golf. Our tee sheet was certainly proof of that.
I would like to give a huge shout out to all the staff at The Wilderness for the extra time and taking on additional responsibilities for making this season a successful one despite all the challenges. They are the engine that keeps us going and why The Wilderness is the place to play!
I hope everyone has a great and safe winter. I look forward to seeing you next season and for brighter days ahead.
Happy Golfing,
Ryan Peterson

GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT
Closing time, open all the valves
And let the water drain free...
Closing time, aerify the fairways,
And sling the sand over every tee and every green...
Closing time, one last call for skins
So, finish your holes and rounds
Closing time, you don't have to go home
But you can't play here
We thought 2020 was going to be the craziest year, then 2021 said, “Hold my beer!” COVID,
drought, and labor shortage made for an interesting and sometimes difficult season. The
maintenance staff hung tough through it all.
Here are some pictures of the course and crew…(imagine a musical overlay from the song Closing Time)
As the sun sets on the 2021 season, thank you to an outstanding crew and the thousands of golfers that make it all worth it!!
Closing time, time for you to go out
Find a warmer place to play
Closing time, this course won't be open
Till the weather and the seasons change
So, gather up your clubs, move them to the closet
I hope you have enjoyed it here
Closing time, every new beginning
Comes from some other beginning's end…
From all of us here in Golf Maintenance, may you have happy and safe holidays and your
dreams be of fairways hit and birdie putts...and we’ll see you on the first tee (in a few months).
Be safe,
Ryan VerNess (Red)
