Spring is in the Air! Well, Sort of...

Well, our spring is not moving too fast!  In the last few weeks, it seemed like it snowed every day.  We currently still have quite a bit of snow on many areas of the course, but we are hoping to get out on the course next week getting things ready.  With that said, it looks like our opening day will be Friday, May 13, as long as the weather does not throw any more curveballs at us. I really hoped we would open a week earlier, but we are at the mercy of Mother Nature.  Opening fishing may even be a bit sketchy this year with so much ice still on the lake.  Let us all hope for some warm and sunny weather! With the start of a new season, there are always challenges.  One of them is finding the many staff needed to offer the excellent service and product we strive to deliver. This has not just been a challenge for us, but for most other businesses as well.  At this time, we are looking to fill many positions for the Wilderness Grill, specifically those who have the experience and desire to cook.  Unfortunately, we have not had much luck in finding enough kitchen staff.  Without the number of staff needed to operate, we cannot open the Wilderness Grill for menu dining.  However, we have had some promising leads and I am hopeful we will not have to go down that road.In the event that the Wilderness Grill will not be open, the Outside Grill will be open 7 days a week offering Burgers, Brats and Hot Dogs with plans to offer other items as well.  We will keep you updated on the restaurant status as things progress through our website, email blasts, Facebook and Instagram. Thanks for your understanding and looking forward to a great golf season!Upcoming events:May 20th – CITY AUTO GLASS VERMILION OPEN – 9 am Shotgun start – 2-person scramble            *Call the Golf Shop at 218-753-8917 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. A note from our superintendent, Ryan VerNessWhen Punxsutawney Phil predicted 6 more weeks of winter, boy was he onto something.  We should have known it was going to be weird, when back in December we had 3 days in the 60s, a thunderstorm that brought 2 inches of rain, and dropped to 0 the next day.  It was super cold throughout the winter, and now it is the winter that won’t end. When we started to get anxious, we started to get on the course…as much as we could.  We had a hard time getting around because of all the snow.  So, when in Rome, we used a snowmobile. Pulled a sled around with our snowblower and tried to get some greens cleaned off.

We did what we could, but it just kept snowing.  We are starting to see some of the effects of a long winter..

However, not all signs are bad…all the plugs we check, we are seeing white roots on the bottom, which gives us hope that the damage that we are seeing is mostly cosmetic.

The great Tom Petty said it best, “The waiting is the hardest part”...so here we are waiting.  Crews are ready to go...get out there to get the course ready to go, as soon as possible! As always, we look forward to seeing you on the 1st tee and keep it between the trees.  -Red
